1. How do I apply to become a CLLC Homestay Host?
If you are interested in becoming a CLLC Homestay Host, please call CLLC to fill out the Homestay Application.
2. How much money will I receive?
You will receive $162.50 per week.
3.How long do students stay with me?
The length of time that students choose to study at CLLC varies widely (from 1 week to 1 year). Therefore, the length of time that students choose to stay in Homestay varies widely as well. CLLC has short term and long term options available for Homestay Hosts.
4. How old are the students?
Students range in age from 16 to 55.
5.How often do new students arrive at the school?
At CLLC, we have weekly enrolment and new students arrive every week.
6. What are the expectations of CLLC Homestay families?
CLLC Homestay families are expected to provide students with an experience of culture and life in Canada. The Host Family is an English-speaking family engaged with CLLC’s Homestay program and is offering suitable accommodation to students studying abroad at CLLC. The Host Family will provide the student with 3 healthy meals a day, a private room with study area and a chance for conversation and interaction with the family.
7. What are the students’ nationalities?
Students come from all over the world to study at CLLC.
8. What is expected of the students during their stay in my home?
During the student’s stay in your home, he/she is expected to respect the rules in your home and interact with you.
9.What happens if my family wants to take a vacation while we are hosting a student?
If your family wants to take a vacation while you are hosting a student you must inform CLLC.
10. Do I have to pick up the student at the airport when they arrive?
No, you do not have to pick up the student at the airport. CLLC will inform you of the student’s arrival time at your home.
11.What happens if there is a problem with my student(s) while they are staying in my home?
If you encounter any minor or major issues while a student is staying at your home, please contact CLLC and we will be happy to assist you.
12. I live outside of the city, is this too far?
CLLC students use the public transit system to go back and forth to school everyday. Therefore, if you live more than 30 - 45 minutes away from CLLC by bus then you live too far away to meet the needs of the student.
13. There are no buses where I live, is this a problem?
As mentioned above, CLLC students use the public transit system to travel back and forth to CLLC everyday. Therefore, if there is no bus service in your area it would not be convenient for you or the student.
14. What if my home is too far from the bus stop or requires many transfers?
The bus stop should be within 10 minutes walking distance and no more than one transfer before arriving at the school.
15. I have (a) pet(s), will this be a problem?
Some students enjoy living with pets while other students have allergies to pets, etc. We avoid placing students in homes with pets if they make such a request.
16. Can I tutor my Homestay student at home?
While CLLC Homestay families are expected to interact with students in order to help them improve their English language skills, Homestay families are not permitted to tutor students for a fee.
17. What is the CLLC definition of a family?
CLLC defines a Homestay family as a social unit in which the student is made to feel that this is his/her home away from home. The student should feel supported, relaxed and comfortable in your home.
